Resurgence of cult hostilities in Bayelsa State escalated on Sunday night as two persons and a prostitute, were allegedly shot dead by gun-totting men at Hospital Junction, Yenagoa, while several others sustained severe injuries.
Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered that the killing at the area notorious for prostitution in the state capital was the climax of an earlier attack at a fast food joint on Azikoro Road, where an undergraduate of the Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma was shot at close range by suspected cultists.

The 23-year-old student, who was said to have participated in last Saturday's matriculation ceremony of the university for the 2011/2012 academic session, was allegedly traced to the fast food joint after which his assailants released several gunshots, which hit him on the upper region of his ribs.

An eyewitness told the Nigerian Tribune that the victim, who bled profusely, was immediately rushed by sympathisers to the state government owned Glory Land Clinic, situated at the Hospital Junction, in a bid to save his life.

Apparently sensing that he might survive the attack, the suspected cultists later stormed the area, with the aim of launching another attack on him at the hospital.

Credible sources told the Nigerian Tribune that the cultists, who arrived at the scene around 8.30 p.m., shot indiscriminately and in the process, a prostitute, angling for night service and two unidentified persons were gunned down, just as others playing snookers beside the hospital sustained serious injuries from the gunshots.

There was pandemonium in the area as shop owners, commercial sex workers and passersby scampered for safety, a development which halted business activities.

When contacted, the Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Eguaveon Emopkae, confirmed the killings, saying that six persons had been arrested in connection with the incident.
