Five Unordinary Facts About President Obama's Mother

Five Unordinary Facts About President Obama's Mother

This Mother's Day, as Sasha and Malia Obama present their mom with handmade gifts at the White House, the stark contrasts between President Obama's family now and his family as a child growing up in Hawaii could not be more apparent.
Whereas the president and the first lady have been married for 20 years, his mother and father were married for four. Throughout the first decade of his daughters' lives the family has lived in two cities, Chicago and Washington, D.C. By the time he was 10, Obama had lived in two countries.
While Obama has put down the strongest of roots, his mother opted for wings, never staying in one place, let alone one country, for long.
"I never imagined that an American president would have a mother who had done the things that she did," Janny Scott, who wrote a biography of Obama's mother, told The New York Times.
And in her biography, "A Singular Woman," Scott quoted the president. His mother had given him, he said, "a sense of unconditional love that was big enough that, with all the surface disturbances of our lives, it sustained me, entirely."
Here are five facts that make President Obama's mother no ordinary mom.
1.
She lived in five states and three countries
Ann Dunham's family moved five times before Ann, or Stanley, as she was called in her childhood, turned 18, bouncing from Wichita, Kans., to California to Texas to Seattle and, finally, to Hawaii.
As an adult Dunham adopted her parents' knack for nomadism, splitting most of her adult life between Hawaii and Indonesia, and briefly taking up residence in Pakistan, where she helped establish a microfinance program for women.
Her son, on the other hand, took the opposite approach, putting down roots in Chicago and firmly planting himself and his family in the U.S.
"We've created stability for our kids in a way that my mom didn't do for us," Obama told Time magazine during his 2008 presidential campaign. "My choosing to put down roots in Chicago and marry a woman who is very rooted in one place probably indicates a desire for stability that maybe I was missing."
2.
Her first name is actually Stanley
President Obama's mother's full name is Stanley Ann Dunham. Although she used her middle name for the majority of her adult life, Dunham went by Stanley throughout grade school, the name that her father, who wanted a son, gave her.
Over the course of Dunham's short life -- she died when she was in her early 50s -- she went byfour different names. Growing up it was Stanley Dunham. In college she was Ann Dunham. During her first marriage, to Barack Obama's father, she was Ann Obama. And after her second marriage she was Ann Soetoro.
3.
She was 18 when Barack Obama was born
President Obama's mother married his father at the ripe young age of 18, after the two met in a Russian-language class at the University of Hawaii. At the time, interracial marriage was illegal in most states.
Dunham was three months pregnant when the two tied the knot in a ceremony so discrete that her son never uncovered any records of the event, according to Scott's biography of Dunham, "A Singular Woman."
By the time Obama was a year old, his father, Barack Obama Sr., had moved from Hawaii to Massachusetts to get a masters degree from Harvard. By the time he was six, he had moved with his mother to Indonesia after she married Lolo Soetoro. The couple had a daughter, Maya Soetoro, before they divorced in 1980.
4.
She was only five years older than Hillary Clinton
Born in 1942, as World War II was ravaging the world, Obama's mother was a mere five years older than Hillary Clinton, whom he would later defeat in a bitter Democratic primary during his race for the White House.
Dunham died a few weeks short of her 53rd birthday, of uterine and ovarian cancer, two years before her son was elected to the Illinois state senate.
5.
She had a Ph.D. in anthropology
It may have taken her two decades and countless trips back-and-forth between Indonesia and the University of Hawaii to complete, but in 1992 Ann Dunham was awarded her Ph.D. inanthropology.
Her 1,000-page dissertation explored the indigenous craft of blacksmithing in Indonesia, a topic she had studied for more than 20 years. She died two years after completing it.
She had instilled in her son the importance of education, making him rise before the sun came up to do his homework. She would tell people that her son was gifted, "that he can do anything he ever wants in the world, even be president of the United States."

The Mex Factor! Britney Spears spends a chilled-out Cinco de Mayo holiday at home with her family

|
She may be about to make (yet another) spectacular return to the
spotlight as a judge on X Factor USA, but Britney Spears is still just a family girl at heart.
Despite the endless invitations for Hollywood parties that surely come her way, the singer, 30, opted to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at home with her close knit clan over the weekend.
The Womanizer hitmaker and the Spears family were pictured enjoying a casual party at a house in Brentwood, California.

In typical style, Britney put comfort ahead of fashion, wearing a red midriff T-shirt, and loose-fitting denim cut-off shorts.
The star wandered around barefoot and for much of the day with her fly unzipped as the family marked the Mexican holiday, a popular celebration in California.

Miley Cyrus Forgets Her Underwear Again: Damn!

Miley Cyrus Forgets Her Underwear Again (Photo)
Somebody get this girl a bra! Miley Cyrus has been snapped letting it all hang out on a shopping trip in Calabasas, California. She claims her recent weight loss is due to a food allergy – is she now allergic to underwear as well?
It’s the second time in a week the former Disney star has been caught less thandressed in public. A couple of days ago she left a pilates class in LA wearing a tight mini dress and not much more. Let’s just say there was no VPL. Celeb Dirty Laundry covered the surprise package with photographic evidence here Miley Cyrus Flashes Bare Naked Crotch
Is Miley forgetful? Did Billy Ray Cyrus teach his little girl how to dress herself? Or is this part of her desperate attention seeking campaign now that boyfriend Liam Hemsworth is starring in The Hunger Games which just happens to be the biggest movie in the world? I’ll take the third option. Miley was once a tween pin up thanks to her starring role on Hannah Montana. She had legions of fans, endorsement deals, songs on the charts and movie offers. Now she’s a 19 year old former child star who is trying to reinvent herself and her career. She’s also exercising like there’s no tomorrow prompting talk she’s anorexic. I think we have a case of ‘little girl lost‘.
Let me give you some free advice Miley. No one is going to take you seriously if you flash the flesh just to get some publicity. Head to your local shopping mall and buy some underwear!... Trendinaija Source / Read More

The Resurrection Of Tupac

It was already one of the most highly-anticipated performances of the Coachella festival this year.

But Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre achieved the impossible last night as they brought back late rapper Tupac Shakur for their headline performance.
Snoop was joined by a life-size hologram of Tupac who stunned the crowd of 75,000 fans when he appeared onstage

The bare-chested Tupac - who was dressed in sagging jeans and Timberland boots circa 1995, just like ones he wore around the time he was shot dead on September 13, 1996, aged 25.
And he greeted the roaring crowd saying:' What's up Coachella?' - a festival that wasn't even taking place at the time of his death - before joining Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre on hit single Hail Mary.
Shakur also joined Snoop for songs Come With Me and Gangsta Party stalking around the stage in his trademark style.

HOW TUPAC'S HOLOGRAM WAS CREATED

The hologram of Tupac was put together by video technology firm AV Concepts with the help of James Cameron's visual effects company, Digital Domain, writes The New Scientist.
It used a mix of previously recorded live footage (thought to be from a 1996 Death Row concert), CGI and an 19th Century magic trick called Pepper's Ghost.
The hologram effect was created using a system developed by London-based Musion, which employs an advanced version of Pepper's Ghost to great effect.
While the traditional illusion uses light partially reflected off a pane of glass, Musion's version involves a custom-developed foil to create more believable images.
The image of a shirtless Tupac, wearing a pair of jeans and brown boots, was also seen interacting with Snoop - making it look incredibly realistic to the cheering crowd.

After performing the track Dr Dre came on stage and screamed: 'Make some f**ing noise for Tupac.'
The hologram of the late rapper had been programmed to greet the crowd by saying: '“what the f*** is up, Coachella?'
And the stunt certainly drew some mixed reactions from those watching.
While some argued that the inclusion of the late rapper's image was in bad taste, many of his celebrity fans took to  Twitter page to express their excitement over the dramatic performance.
Katy Perry tweeted: 'I think I might have cried when I saw Tupac.'
RIhanna added: 'TupacBack unbelievable Iwasthere Story4myGrandKidz (sic).'
The pair were later joined by famous friends including 50 Cent, Eminem and Wiz Khalifa.
And following the performance, Khalifa tweeted: 'F*****g 2pac Ahhhhhhh!!! I Performed Wit Dr Dre And Snoop Dogg!!! Awww f*** Im So Happy To Be Alive. That Was The Best s**t I Seen In My Life! Thank Everybody!!! Snoop. Dre. Warren G. Pac. The Stoners. The Ratchet!!! Usher. 50 Cent. Coachella Was Life Changing!!!"

Tupac died in 1996 aged 25 after being shot four times, but is still one of the best-selling musical artists in the world.
The resurrection was achieved with the use of modern technology derived from a 19th Century technique called Pepper's Ghost.
The very same technology was used to help Mariah Carey perform a special Christmas treat for fans in five different European cities last year.

A New York Jets football star has fathered 10 children by eight different women.
Antonio Cromartie, 28, has fathered the brood with eight women from around the country including California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and New Jersey.
The new addition to the family is baby Jagger with his wife Terricka.
The football star, who recently signed a four year deal worth $32 million, pays $3,500 in child maintenance for each child from his previous relationships.
The jilted women are now hoping to get together to film a reality show.
Ryan Ross, who is mother to Cromartie's fifth child Tyler Jae, told the New York Post she wanted the show to go ahead.
"Our kids need to know who their siblings are. It's bigger than our past with Antonio. It's about our children."
