Ghana court refuses to free Argentine warship Libertad

A Ghanaian court has refused to free an Argentine warship seized in a debt dispute involving the South American nation's creditors.

The Libertad, a training ship on a tour of Africa, was detained at the request of NML Capital, which is suing Buenos Aires for defaulting on its loans.

Argentina condemned it as a "vulture funds' stunt" and lawyers argued as a military vessel it enjoyed immunity.

But the judge said Argentina had waived immunity as part of its loan deal.

The BBC's Akwasi Sarpong in Ghana's capital, Accra, says lawyers acting for the Argentine vessel also put in a plea for the warship to be allowed to refuel to keep the vessel's engines running and to service the crew.

The judge asked lawyers for both sides to come to an agreement on that request, he says.

NML Capital is a subsidiary of US hedge fund Elliot Capital Management, one of Argentina's former creditors.

Argentina defaulted on more than $100bn (£62bn) of debt in 2001 and 2002, the biggest default in history. The majority of these loans were restructured in 2005 and 2010, giving creditors around 30% of their money back.

Some creditors including Elliot chose to hold out, pursuing the Argentine government through the courts in order to recover the full amount.

Police in Norway are investigating the theft of some of the Ghanaian Ashanti crown jewels from a hotel in Oslo.

The jewels were travelling with King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the ruler of the Ashanti, who is representing Ghana at a conference in the Norwegian capital.

A suitcase was snatched from the lobby of the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel.

The jewels, amassed over generations and considered to be priceless, are used by the king when he performs ceremonial duties.

Police are quoted in the Norwegian media as saying that they have "good" surveillance pictures, and are now trying to identify suspects in the footage.

"Anyone carrying something of great personal value will understand what a great loss it is when it is stolen," said the king's secretary Kofi Owusu Boateng. "And for anyone who knows our tradition it will be clear that these crown jewels has tremendous value."

King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II ascended the throne in 1999 as the 16th ruler, or Asantehene.

The Asantehene is a revered figurehead for Ghana's largest ethnic group. He adjudicates in disputes and is closely involved in local issues.

However the king - like other traditional leaders - is barred by the constitution from taking part in Ghanaian politics.

Ghana 9 Men Were Nabbed For Stripping Woman

9 Nabbed For Stripping Woman

The suspects
Nine suspects who were arrested for allegedly stripping a married woman naked for insulting their chief at Lipke-Abrani have been granted bail by a Ho circuit court after being charged for indecent assault.
The nine, who pleaded not guilty, were given a GH¢8,000 bail each with a surety, a condition most of them have not been able to meet.
They are currently in police cells.
The presiding judge, Richard Kogyatwah, directed the police to re-arrest the Mankrado of Lipke-Abrani, Togbe Pius Clemefi, who is reported to have directed the people of the area to strip Anastasia Adom naked and banish her for allegedly claiming that the chief of the area, Nana Borkeh Akototsey V, had licked her vagina.
Although 18 suspects have so far been identified, 10 persons including the Mankrado, the two Tsiames, Kumah and David Mensah, and a female, were arrested while the others are at large.
The Mankrado, on his arrest, was said to be indisposed and so he was granted a police enquiry bail.
However, Judge Kogyatwah said that the Mankrado should be re-arrested and brought before the court at the next hearing.
The Regional Police Commander, Alex Bedie, who briefed journalists last Tuesday, condemned the actions of the suspects and noted that all others involved would be arrested and made to face the law, depending on the outcome of their investigations.
He also cautioned chiefs to ensure that in exercising their customs and laws, they tallied with the constitution of Ghana.
The victim, a 34-year-old married woman, Adom Anastasia, was stripped naked and assaulted by her kinsmen for allegedly insulting their chief.
According to them, the victim who is a trader and a native of Likpe Abrani, had insulted Nana Borkeh Akototsey V, accusing him of licking her vagina.
As a result, on September 24, 2012, Anastasia was invited by Tsiame Kumah and Tsiame David Mensah to appear before the Mankrado, Togbe Pius Clemefi the next day, September 25, over the allegation.
At 8am on that day, the two Tsiames escorted her to the house of the Mankrado where over 200 community members were gathered.
She was asked to kneel before the council which she did.
The Mankrado said one Nicholas Borkeh and Mary Afenyo at Mawuse had reported that she had insulted Nana Borkeh V by saying that the chief had licked her vagina.
She denied the allegation, after listening to the witnesses. The Mankrado, in consultation with the elders, found her guilty and ordered that she be banished from the town.
The Mankrado also ordered that Anastasia be stripped naked and banished.
The crowd complied and apart from stripping her naked, they beat her up while others took advantage of the situation to sexually assault her.
They ordered her to march through the town naked while others took photographs of her and mocked her as well.
She was subsequently ordered to leave the town at 6 pm that day in her nakedness.
The crowd proceeded to her grocery shop to vandalise and loot it.
Anastasia Adom told DAILY GUIDE that not even her tears and pleas to the crowd stopped them from subjecting her to that treatment.
She noted that she was shocked that women were part of the torture squad.
She had to use a bush route to reach her husband who was in another village by then.
She and her husband later reported the case to the police who made some arrests while others escaped.

(+18) Ghana Senior High Students Expose Their Genitalia In The Open ( VIDEO)

No matter how people chastise individuals who decide to capture sexual acts in form of videos which eventually end up in the public domain, nothing seems to stop people from indulging in such immoral acts.

The latest to hit Peacefmonline.com is a video of young female SHS students exposing themselves and gladly recording their actions.

A number of female Senior High Students who seemed to be having fun in front of their dormitory was recorded by their fellow students dancing half naked in the open.
LEGIBLES: To See Video Click Here
The seductive dance went on and on, until one of the girls who has the biggest butts among them decided to intentionally pull her pants down to show her hairy genitalia to the camera.

Even though the particular school, this appalling act took place is not immediately known, pictures and voices in the video indicates that, this happened at a female’s dormitory in a mix school or a girl’s school dormitory somewhere in Ghana.

Why these young girls captured this on video and how the video came into the public domain is also not known.

Stabbed Pregnant Woman Dies in Ghana

GHANA—YAA OFORIWAA, 26, the pregnant woman at Sepe Timpom in Kumasi who on Wednesday morning was stabbed together with her two daughters by her husband, Kwadwo Yeboah aka Makafi, has died.
The Asawase District Police Commander, DSP Nana Kumi, who confirmed the sadnews to DAILY GUIDE, indicated that Oforiwaa died around 5:00am on Friday whilst receiving treatment at the hospital.
News reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that Oforiwaa, who sustained severe injuries after being stabbed in the stomach, initially responded positively to treatment and looked like she would recover fully.
But the mother of two, who was receiving treatment at the emergency centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, had a relapse and died yesterday morning.
Oforiwaa and her two daughters, Abena Adwubi, 4, and one-and-a-half-year-old Francisca Ama Oforiwaa were stabbed with a sharp knife by Makafi, her husband.
The two children, whose stomachs were slashed open, died instantly in their mother’s locked room as their wicked father watched.
Oforiwaa was rescued by the neighbours in the area after her mother, Madam Adwoa Manu, spotted her bleeding profusely in their room late in the night.
The mother of two, who lost the baby after the incident, initially looked like she was on her way to recovery but her situation suddenly deteriorated, resulting in her death.

Sources at the hospital noted that Oforiwaa, before passing away, managed to give them an account of what happened to her and her two daughters that fateful Wednesday morning.
The deceased reportedly narrated that Makafi was in good spirits when he visited her and the children that day, pointing out that she never anticipated that her husband could kill her and their children.
Oforiwaa, who reportedly confided in her brother while on her death bed, said her husband pretended that all was well with him and even had sex with her in the room.
After the affair, Makafi, who had some time ago asked Oforiwaa to help him kill the children, pulled out a sharp knife and again asked his pregnant wife to help him kill their two daughters.
Oforiwaa, however, flatly refused to do such a thing, thus infuriating Makafi, who tied her hands with a rope, covered her mouth and stabbed her in the abdomen.
The pregnant woman became very weak and feigned death, preventing blood-thirsty Makafi from stabbing her again.
The suspect then directed his anger at his children, Abena Adwubi and Ama Oforiwaa, slashing their stomachs open with the sharp knife, killing them instantly.
Makafi, after the heinous crime, tried taking his own life but failed as the metal bar he tried to hang himself on, with a sponge, broke.
The suspect, who is said to be a wee smoker and thief, has since the incident gone into hiding.
Reports from Sepe Timpom have it that Makafi is hiding at an unknown place in Kumasi.
Meanwhile, the Asawase police, according to the commander, DSP Nana Kumi, have intensified the search for Makafi, who is reported to be hiding in the thick bush behind the Kumasi airport.
The police capo on Friday morning told DAILY GUIDE on phone that his outfit received a tip-off that Makafi was hiding in a bush around the airport so “I hurriedly dispatched police personnel to comb the area to see if we can apprehend him.”

Efya, Anita Erskine For Movie

Date: 07-May-2012

Efya

In what appears to be a strategy to save movie fans from getting bored, new faces from the showbiz world are gradually finding their way into Ghana’s movie industry.

News-One sources say latest to join the league of actresses is Afro-Eclectic African soul singer Efya Awindor, and one time Ghanaian presenter of Dstv Studio 53, Anita Arskine.

The two women have received scripts for an upcoming movie by Media GH. They will be playing major roles alongside top acts Chris Attoh, Nadia Buari, Kofi Adjorlolo, and Yvonne Nelson among others from Nigeria and some fresh new faces movie fans would definitely love to see on the screens.

Anita Erskine
Definitely the movie will be a new page in Efya’s young entertainment career.

She is described as a legendary singer in the making. World-class South African musician Hug Masekela compared Efya’s style of singing to Fela Kuti.

“…but she was fantastic; the things she did were like medieval and artistes like that need a medieval setting. See artiste like Efya needs her own club, the way Fela had the shrine. You know but she needs her own place where she can do this stuff,” he stated.

She was phenomenal last year on the music scene and hopes are that movies fans would like her acting output when the movie is finally done.
