It appears that D’banj and Don Jazzy are moving past their recent ‘ugly’  fight and badly damaged relationship, following the former’s congratulatory message to his ex-boss on his (Don Jazzy) new record label.

In a tweet on Monday, former partner in the Mo’hits squad,  D’banj, sent a congratulatory message to his former partner Michael Collins, popularly known as Don Jazzy on the launch of his new record label “Congrats to my brother and the best producer in Africa Don jazzy on the launch of his new Record Label, MAVIN RECORDS. Wish u all the best.” – Dbanj.

In return Don Jazzy replied “Thanks Bro. God Bless you“, and also added “After Solar Plexus Tomorrow. Tweeps next stop is #Olivertwist UK Release May 14th. Your support is needed always. RepNaija, RepAfrica. Oshee” Solar Plexus is set to be released today May 8th.   So far, the tweet has generated a lot of comments from fans, most of which rally around the fact that, D’banj is trying to salvage the badly damaged relationship between him and his ex-boss.
You will recall that D’Banj and Don Jazzy owned the Mo Hits record label but few months back, both men split ways in what many regard as, perhaps, the worst split in Nigerian music industry.
It all started when Don Jazzy moved out of the mansion both stars shared for years in Lekki peninsula, Lagos, apparently frustrated with D’banj’s “lifestyle, tantrums and unmanageable ego” while  D’banj backed out because he also felt Don Jazzy is spending more time advancing the careers of other artistes in the label and was not “concentrating enough” on D’banj’s forth coming album which was due for release some time this year.  The straw that broke the camel’s back was an interview remarks allegedly made by D’Banj to US based Ebony magazine, in which he claimed ownership to Mo Hits, referring to Don Jazzy as “my artiste.”
Both stars followed their split with insults hauled at each other, driven by D’Banj who later claimed his Twitter and Facebook pages were hacked and used for the malicious insults.
On monday, however, both artiste appeared to be mending their fences as D’Banj tweeted Don Jazzy, congratulating him for new record label, Mavin Records which is set for launch.

Don Jazzy has broken the silence over his future by today announcing the launch of his new record label. Mavin Records, a wholly independent label, will be the new home for former Mo’Hits stalwarts: Wande Coal, Dr. Sid and D’Prince. The multiple award winning producer also announced that Tiwa Savage would be joining the Mavin family. The signing of Savage, one of Nigeria’s leading vocalists, is seen as a major coup for the budding record label and Don Jazzy promised fans that there are many more exciting faces to be “activated” by the label in the near future.

Following a very public split with former Mo’Hits partner, Dbanj, speculation had been rife about what projects the producer had lined up. Several stories had rumbled about relations between the pair but Don Jazzy revealed that his eyes are focused firmly on the future.

“I know that there are questions unanswered, mysteries unsolved and wounds to heal,” the producer said. “But I would really appreciate if we allow time to heal the wounds for us all instead of digging them up again.”

The founder and CEO of the new label has spent the last three weeks locked in the recording studio along with the fellow “Mavins” as they finalise plans for their debut compilation album, Solar Plexus, released 8th May. The album has been a collaborative labour of love which has traversed five countries. In the same vein as the previously released Curriculum Vitae by the Mo’Hits All Stars, Solar Plexus will exclusively showcase the musical talents of the Mavin Records crew.  The renowned sound mixer, James ‘LeRock’ Loughrey, was one of several international collaborators used in perfecting the sound of the album and has predicted that the album will be “huge.” Work is also at various stages for all the individual solo albums with release dates to be announced soon.

With the dissolution of Mo’Hits since agreed with D’Banj, Don Jazzy has high ambitions for the new label which he anticipates will soon be “the power house of music in Africa.” He called on all his fans and well-wishers to get behind the new project for what he promises will be a “very exciting journey.”

I see Mavin Records being the power house of Music in Africa in the shortest possible time. I know Rome wasn't built in a day but with a lot of hard work, a good and God fearing team, our friends and fans, TV houses, radio stations, press, bloggers and most of all with God on our side, there is nothing we cannot achieve.

D’banj, Don Jazzy Saga: Wande Coal Withdraws Tweet? Damn!

In 2009, when Wande Coal stormed the scene as the newest addition to the Mo’hit’s family, everyone saw the bond between him and the Koko master D’banj grow dramatically. It was therefore understandable when during the uproar that followed the split of Don Jazzy and D’Banj, Wande Coal had kept mute.

He was silent everywhere; both on his twitter and facebook pages. Until lately, when reports filter that the ten ten crooner had allegedly dropped tweets on social networking site twitter in reaction to a new development on the Mo’Hits trouble only to withdraw the said tweet less than twenty four hours later.

According to the gist, Wande had allegedly reacted to a story blowing in the rumour mills that D’banj allegedly asked Don Jazzy in a leaked email to return the Bently he (D’banj) reportedly bought for Don Jazzy.

Wande was alleged to have tweeted “saying that he bought a car for Don Jazzy is wrong and untrue. Come onnnnnn. Well I don’t think he said that sha till I see a video of this”

As you read this, the said tweet is not on Wande’s timeline on twitter yet those who swear they saw it are sticking to their story.

Wande Coal has however made no comments to claim or deny this tweet and with the silence has come rather ridiculous guesses that probably hackers had been at work again.

This latest development comes as insiders say another label like Mo’Hits may re-emerge should Don Jazzy manage to rebuild a new music empire that would bare his name and seal alone.

Mo’Hits Records The Titanic Finally Sinks: D’banj, Don Jazzy, Wande Coal Trade Words

Don-Jazzy to D’banj: “You must pay all Mo’hits debts”,  D’banj’s response, “Will you return the Bentley I bought for you?” , Wande Coal reacts: “saying that he bought a car for donjazzy is wrong and untrue. come onnnnnn. well i dont think he said it sha until i see a video of it’…‘God please don’t let the success you have given me get to my head to the extent that I will forget my humble beginnings”     

 It appears there is more to the incredible break-up issue between D’banj and Don-Jazzy of the Mo’hits records, as the pair which parted ways some weeks ago, are now at loggerheads over the ownership of Mo’Hits records.  The two rivals, D’banj and Don Jazzy who were formerly best pals are no longer on speaking terms, neither do they see eye to eye, as a matter of fact, they  now communicate via email only when necessary.  

Details of the breakup which borders around the ownership claim of Mo’hits records, has been unveiled in  a confidential email corrsepondence between the former collaborators, obtained by E-Punch. According to source,  Don Jazzy is claiming that D’banj should own up and pay all the debts of Mo’hits records since he is publicly declaring that he owns 100% of the songs under Mo’hits imprint.

Mo’hits records which comprises all D’banj’s albums (No Long Thing, Rundown Funk U Up and The Entertainer), Wande Coal’s Mushin to Mo’Hits and The Mo’Hits Crew All Stars’ album, Curriculum Vitaeamong others is on the verge of collapse as the two rivals, Don-Jazzy and D’banj alledgely trade words over its ownership.  So far, the Mo’Hits crew has been divided, as the two main figures in the crew split ways with their different disciples, that is, D’banj’s younger brother, K-Switch, leaves with D’banj while Wande Coal, Dr Sid and D’Prince choose to take sides with Don Jazzy.

In regards to D’banj’s claim for 100 percent ownership of all songs recorded under the Mo’Hits label, Don-Jazzy declared in an email on March 17th “…Note that Mo’Hits Records only owns 60 per cent of the songs and 40 per cent belongs to the individual artiste. So, 40 per cent of the songs is not mine to give…the catalogue I am releasing to D’banj only consists of songs already released in album exempting new singles and unreleased materials…So, songs like Wande Coal’s Go Low and Been Long You Saw Meare not part of the catalogue he is receiving…It is important to note that any unreleased songs done by any artiste (including D’banj and K-Switch) must not be released and is not part of the catalogue I am giving away.”

Also, “With these few points, I do hope that you all realise that I have been generous enough to facilitate the End of the “D’banj & Don Jazzy” era as a team. After this new deal has been signed and sealed, I do NOT look forward to seeing an email whatsoever or hearing from the DKM (D’banj, K-Switch, Mo’Hits) crew…again.”

D’banj on responding to the email, stated that, ““What do you mean by any bills or loans would be cleared by Mr. D’banj? That will never happen because when I ran the company, I ran it perfectly and well. So, if I give him my shares he is left with 100 per cent liability.. My catalogue is everything that has been done with the Mo’Hits system and under the normal agreement we have, that means everything I have recorded or that has been recorded whether new or old, or even classic, whether beat with concept or even idea without beats, anything we did as a team and sponsored by me throughout, then, it is mine. Including K-switch clause and all mine and even Wande’s singles and all till the date of signing even today…In case he (Don Jazzy) forgot, this is the arrangement! 50/50—–song writer/ production, which means for a song X for artiste Y, 75 per cent as per production is fully owned by Mo’Hits and writing is shared 25/25 with the individual artiste co- writing. So, that’s the deal! So him (sic) saying 40 per cent is not his to give away is more like 75per me and 25per each artiste.”

Continuing, D’banj said, “And now, (I) wanna clear the air on this Samsung deal! I would expect by now that you understand that me keeping quiet is being GENEROUS because this is a deal structured under Mo’Hits Records, (and it is) the first deal and income you would ever bring into the company in  eight years. We shared the first 150k (One hundred and fifty thousand dollars) the right way, 1/3 down and that was cool. But after you collected another 130k and did not say anything (that) is and could be described as theft! I only refused to contact them (Samsung) directly because of your reputation. But please don’t call me a fool and let’s know who is generous…Please, please, will he (Don Jazzy) return the Bentley because I bought it for him and it was N5.2m more than mine?… So, let’s get the facts straight, I AM BEING MORE THAN GENEROUS.”

Meanwhile, more reactions to the leaked e-mail correspondence between the warring partners has not stopped pouring in and this time Wande Coal, the star singer discovered and raised by the duo has shared his thoughts on the issue via his Twitter account.

‘As much as I would like to be quiet on this issue. seeing peoples responses to this so called leaked emails i can’t take it any longer…Saying that he bought a car for Don Jazzy is wrong and untrue. come onnnnnn. well i dont think he said it sha until i see a video of it’…‘God please don’t let the success you have given me get to my head to the extent that I will forget my humble beginnings’, he tweeted.

To wrap it all up, he pledged his alliance to Don Jazzy. ‘@Donjazzy baba I hail you dieeeeee. will be back from dubai tomorrow’.

Don Jazzy And D'banj At It Again, Over Mo'Hits Empire ... Damn!

If you think the war within the recently defunct Mo’Hits camp  is over, well think again as things just got messier.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve reported about the bad blood between former label bosses Dapo ‘D’banj’ Oyebanjo and ‘Michael ‘Don Jazzy’ Collins.
The former kicked the producer out of their Lekki mansion, both acts don’t see eye to eye and even all attempts by their parents, close friends, business associates including the Governor of Lagos state to get the once unbreakable duo back together  proved abortive.
Now that the label is at the brink of total demolition, both parties are fighting tooth and nail to scrape what’s left of the once thriving empire.

This is all revealed in a recent confidential E-mail correspondence between Don Jazzy and D’banj (published on punchng.com) where both parties go back and forth on E-mails arguing about who earns the rights and highest shares in the Mo’Hits catalogue.
In the private emails believed to have been leaked by one of the camps, D’banj points out Don Jazzy is yet to produce the second part payment from the recentSamsung deal supposedly worth about N44m. And to add salt to the injury, the entertainer has asked Don Jazzy to return the Bentley automobile which he ‘bought for him’ (Don Jazzy).
D’banj clearly points out that he is being ‘more than generous’ with the way he has handled things in the past; when Don Jazzy argues that his younger brother D’Prince doesn’t owe anything to the label because he was never officially signed on, D’banj says it doesn’t matter because he bought the lad an ‘N11m naira car (LR3/Range) without releasing any album ‘just to boost the image which worked’.
‘This is getting more and more dirty by the day. It’s so unfortunate’, a Mo’hits friend told us this morning. No word yet from either party but we’re working the lines to get reactions.

And any loans or debt owed by Mo’Hits records as at today will be cleared by Mr D’banj as I am clearly not aware of any.
So, songs like Wande Coal’s Go Low and Been Long You Saw Me are not part of this catalogue he is receiving. Also, an artiste like D’Prince, not only has he not released any album, he has not signed any contract whatsoever with Mo’Hits Records.
That he has no right to claim any monies for deals that have been brokered already as at today with the catalogues or stop their usage. It is important to note that any unreleased songs done by any artiste (including D’banj and K-Switch) MUST NOT be released and is not part of the catalogue I am giving away.
With these few points, I do hope that you all realise that I have been generous enough to facilitate the End of the “D’banj & Don Jazzy” era as a team.

D’banj, Don Jazzy Face-Off: Dr Sid Takes Sides.

Since the news broke more than two weeks ago that the once enigmatic music business empire shared between Don Jazzy and D’ banj was falling apart, the rest of the Mo’ hits clan had kept mum over the matter, quietly lurking in the background and keeping as far away from the controversy as they could possibly get. However, one of them, Dr Sid, may have finally spoken up.

He came on the social networking site twitter and tweeted “Don Jazzy is the most important piece of Mo hits, who doesn’t get the credit he deserves, without his creativity a lot of things will not exist.”
Industry watchers insist this is a proclamation of where Dr Sid’s true loyalty lies. But then, many that have seen the tweet aren’t really surprised.
Close eyes and ears inside the Mo’hits once formidable pack had repeatedly told entertainment journalists in the past that the pair of D’Banj and Dr Sid were never really the best of pals.

Naijapals Report: Dbanj Booed Off Stage At The Koko Concert 2011

It was not surprising that the Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites, the venue of the annual Koko Concert organized by the Mohits was filled to its capacity last night, Tuesday, December 27, 2011 leaving scores of people standing and many more denied entry for the sakes of suffocation.

The main concert did not start until the late hours of the night owning to some technical problems that were being fixed inside the main auditorium. Though many seemed tired and angry with the delay, but the appearance of W4, the Wagba Kontrol crooner on the stage changed it all. It was followed by performance from Naeto C, Davido, Wizkid and UK based Nigerian artiste Dotstar who all wowed the audience before IK Osakioduwa who anchored the show introduced the Mo’hit family on stage.
Democratic Republic of Congo super star, Cabo Snoop was another great performer of the night; he performed some of his best hit songs like Pratakatumba and Windeck to the delight of his teeming Nigerian fans.

The audience, including celebrities went wild when the sexy and award winning sensational singer, Tiwa Savage came on stage clad in a shiny dark blue top and purple hot pants. She really brought the high expectations and excitement back; Tiwa intoxicated the audience with her first rendition, ‘Without My Heart’ which featured the Mohit head honcho, Don Jazzy. The crowd was on their feet all through before she sang another monster hit song – ‘‘Love me, Love me, Love me’ off her yet to be released album. In no time, both the young and old at the show lost decorum. Some trooped to the forefront of the stage while others stood on their seats, all in the name of getting a good glimpse of Tiwa Savage. She literally got the over 5,000 audience eating from her palm.

Unfortunately for a concert as big as Koko Concert, all the performance from the artistes were lip-synched even with the presence of a live instrument which however looked more as a make-over for the stage.
After 7 minutes of mini documentary of Dbanj on the big screen, some fans couldn’t wait to see the Koko-Master come on stage as they kept screaming his name in thousands. Without much ado, the camera was directed to the middle of the auditorium where Dbanj had been hiding for some time. Dbanj was decked in a gold colored shiny jacket over a T-shirt with a picture of his American label (G.O.O.D music) owner, Kanye West’s face on it, with black pants and brown shoes.

While the crowd was still basking in the euphoria of Dbanj’s appearance, he thrilled them with his song, Suddenly, with the backup of a live band, and the crowd kept screaming just like the Libyans celebrated the fall of the late dictator, Muhammar Gaddafi.

But the excitement was short-lived when Pop star Dbanj, who was the last headliner, unfortunately put up a disappointing performance. When Dbanj performance with the live band became obviously dull, the Deejay came back on stage once again and it was a mixture of drum set and his original recorded beats which he however continue to lip-synch to. Many anticipated more than what the Mo’Hits Vice President brought.

As the crowd got more bored of his performance, the Koko Master continued to engage in pointless small-talks and complimenting his sexuality per time. In place of an enigmatic performance the audience had expected, Dbanj was too busy raining accolades on his brand, Genevieve, Kanye West, GT Bank and random ladies who she finds irresistible among the crowd. It got so annoying that some people began to leave.

When he realized the crowd was gradually leaving the main auditorium, he performed ‘Fall in love’ and dedicated it to Don Jazzy’s parents who were celebrating their 30th marriage anniversary on the same day.

The shocking news of the night was when Dbanj announced that people should not expect any ‘spectacular surprise’ as American rapstar, Rick Ross was not in Nigeria as earlier publicized due to the recent state of insecurity in the country. This triggered a massive exit from the hall as the crowd who were expectedly waiting for Rick Ross and possibly Kanye West to come on stage as a surprise package for the night felt highly disappointed.
